New Sea Baby marine drones over 1500 km

Ukraine Security Service revealed a new generation of unmanned water systemsSea Baby. These structures, developed since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, have the ability to fight targets at sea, land and air.

Another phase of sea clash in the Black Sea

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) informed about the successful testing of new versions of unmanned Sea Baby vessels designed for precise long-range strikes. According to the official message, the machines were to stayused, among others, during the third attempt to damage the Crimean Bridge on 3 June this year, directly approaching the designated detonation point with explosive charges.

Although the attack did not lead to a collapse of the structure, according to SBU, it severely damaged one of the pillars of the bridge, which could result in a long-term limitation of its capacity.

Sea Baby: new opportunities, new goals

As noted in official materials, the units developed by SBU constitute a new generation of sea drones, whose operational range is now over 1500 km, and the capacity reaches two tons. The modernization included, among others, propulsion systems and on-board navigation, which allows for more effective performance at long distances, also in conditions of limited visibility and with a strong distortion of the GPS signal.

With funding from UNITED24, the new Sea Baby variants were created in two operational versions. The first was equipped with a stabilized machine gun with an automatic target detection and tracking function, indicating the intended use for combating air and water hazards – especially ZOP helicopters, dronesand patrol boats.

The second variant has been adapted toground attacks, thanks to the installation of a rocket launcher type Grad with ten guides, allowing fire strikes to be carried out for shore purposes.

From kamikaze to weapon platform

Ukraine began using unmanned submarines in combat conditions in September 2020. Initially, they were only kamikaze-type impact drones, the aim of which was to maximise interference with the Black Sea Fleet. As a result of these actions, some Russian units were forced to go from Sevastopol to Novorossian.

In the following stages of development, reusable variants have emerged, used both for the recognition and destruction of water, land and air targets. The particularly advanced constructions are currently used by Ukrainian military intelligence HUR unitsof type Magura V7, which, according to official sources, used AIM-9 Sidewinder missiles to combat helicopters and enemy aircraft.

A New Dimension of Maritime War

As stated in the official communication of the Head of the Security Service of Ukraine, General Vasil Maluk, the development of marine unmanned workers is a key element of the strategy of destroying Russian forces in the Black Sea. It was by his name that these units gained an unofficial nameSea Little Ones – Sea Baby.

The introduction of systems with such high mobility, precision and coverage opens a new chapter in the conduct of war in closed and coastal waters.Faced With LimitedThe conventional advantage, Ukraine proves that asymmetric technology can effectively displace the more powerful forces of the opponent from key operational areas.

The development of marine unmanneds by Ukraine, financed partly by society, is an expression of adaptation to modern conditions of the battlefield. In a situation where traditional forms of maritime combat give way to irregular actions and precise shocks, constructions such asSea Babybecome an essential element of defence architecture.
