New fuel tankers for Japanese Marines Self-defense

Japanese Marine Defense Forces are preparing to introduce new fuel tankers that will strengthen their logistics and operation. Shin Kurushima Shipyard will build two medium-sized units designed to supply distant naval bases.
New fuel tankers, marked as Yard Oiler Tankers, are financed from the 2019 budget. Ordering at Shin Kurushima shipyard is a historic event for her because they will be the first units built for the Japanese armed forces. Tankers with a displacement of 4900 tons will be mainly responsible for transporting fuel to bases located outside the main archipelago, such as Okinawa or Nansea islands.
These tankers will also be used to supply ships on anchors and reds. However, they will not be equipped with equipment to supply ships in the sea (RAS). These tasks are currently being implemented chartered civilian ships, which according to the fleet command does not guarantee availability in the event of military action. The new Yard Oiler Tankers will begin their service in April and July 2022 when their incorporation into the line is planned.
