New OPV for Chinese Maritime Administration

The CMSA (China Maritime Safety Administration) will receive an exceptionally large OPV patrol boat built at the Guangzhou Wenchong Ship Factory Company shipyard according to a project developed in the 701 Construction Office.

China Maritime Safety Administration is a structure subordinate to the Ministry of Transport responsible for maritime safety, maritime safety, control and management of the movement of individuals, prevention and combating environmental pollution, technical supervision of floating vessels and hydrotechnical installations (including offshore), navigation safety (including GMDSS, SAR, navigational warnings), port traffic, and compliance with security regulations. In addition, it acts as a naval chamber to investigate navigation accidents.

This service was created from the mergerChina Ship Inspection Bureau (Chinese ship register) and China Port Supervision Bureau (Ports Oversight Office) and as the only of the 5 Chinese maritime services is not a component of the Chinese Coast Guard (being a police formation). The CMSA currently has 25,000 officers and also employs many thousands of technical and auxiliary personnel. It has 1,300 OPV units of each size (of which 126 by more than 20 m, 59 by more than 30 m, 18 by more than 40 m, 2 by more than 60 m and 2 by more than 100 m),

The newly ordered OPV is to have: displacement of 10 700 tonnes, length 165 m, width 20.3 m., dive The unit is to have a hangar and landing area for multi-purpose helicopters.

The new ship on which the contract was signed on 28 April is to be launched next year.Its size and designjustify the presumption that it may have a dual purpose as it will be able to carry out the tasks of a high-speed carrier supporting landing operations.
