Maritime University of Technology received the first funds for the construction of a new research ship

The Maritime University in Szczecin is starting one of the most important projects of recent years. The university received a decision for the first tranche of the state budget to design and build a new school-research vessel to support education and research at sea.

March 30 at the Senate Hall Maritime University of Technology a decision was signed triggering the first funding for the new entity. Secretary of State in the Ministry of Infrastructure Arkadiusz Marchewka provided the university rector Wojciech Słączko with a document confirming the allocation of the first tranche of funds.

Funding comes from a pool of PLN 625 million planned for the design and construction of a school-research vessel. The funds were secured under the Government's multiannual programme "Construction of Ships for Maritime Universities from 2025 to 2029".
What's the new research ship going to be?
The planned unit is to serve as a multi-tasking research vessel. It will serve both to educate students and to conduct advanced research at sea. As the Rector of Maritime University Wojciech Ślączka emphasized, the new ship is to support not only the university, but also the entire academic community.
The unit is expected to be about 93 metres long, about 18 metres wide and dive 6.5 to 7 metres. On board vessel There will be laboratories, submarines, satellite navigation systems and modern propulsion systems. The ship will be adapted for research in hydrography, marine geology, offshore area and marine ecosystems and oceans, as well as for activities in polar waters.
