Countdown for Cutlass Express 2021

On 26 July – 6 August, Cutlass Express 2021, organized by the U.S. Naval Forces Africa, will be held in the waters off the coast of East Africa.

The Cutlass Express exercises, organised by the United States Command in Africa and led by U.S. Naval Forces Africa, aim to assess and improve the combined enforcement capabilities of maritime law and promote national and regional security in East Africa. Cutlass Express also increases interoperability between American, African and international partners.

The aim of Cuttless Express is to train US forces in procedures, boarding, searching and acquisition, best practices and interoperability with partner countries. The exercise aims at improving regional cooperation, improving awareness in the maritime domain (MDA), exchanging information between Marine Operations Centres (MOCs), responsiveness, compliance with the rule of law principles and capacity to block the proliferation of illegal goods and combat piracy. Focused scenarios will include combating smuggling of illegal weapons, drugs, money, natural resources, weapons of mass destruction materials and persons who threaten regional stability, international partners or supply extremist organisations.
