Action in the Arabian Sea
While patrolling the Arabian Sea as part of preventive and police action, the frigate HMS Lancaster of the Royal Navy in collaboration with the international Combined Task Force 150 (CTF150) and with the support of the Wildcat helicopter located a suspicious unit. Thanks to the rapid response and actions of trained Royal Marines along with sailors from HMS Lancaster, effective boarding was conducted. It resulted in the suppression of smuggling and the confiscation of 260 kg of heroin and 200 kg of hashish.
International cooperation
The HMS Lancaster ship operates in the Middle East region as part of a long-term mission and is part of the United Kingdom's permanent presence in the Persian Gulf. The success was achieved during the HMS Lancaster audit activities during the International Combined Task Force 150 (CTF150), the main objective of which is anti-drug and anti-terrorism activities in the Indian Ocean.

I am proud of the work of the entire crew of the ship and their ability to effectively counter smuggling. This is a real team effort that requires coordinated action to act as a well-oiled machine. This success we share with our international partners with the Combined Task Force 150 who provided the necessary support for the operation.
Commander Chris Sharp, Commander of HMS Lancaster
The CTF150, which is currently commanded by the French Navy, uses the Royal Navy quota. Captain Yannick Bossu, CTF150 commander, stressed the operational effectiveness of the Joint Maritime Forces, saying, "This significant acquisition once again highlights our efficiency in the field of action and shows the commitment of both Britain and France to maintaining regional maritime security."
The Royal Navy has played a key role in ensuring security in the Middle East for years. Their long-term mission is to combat illegal activity and maintain stability in the region. During this year, the frigate HMS Lancaster successfully thwarted drug smuggling worth over £15 million. This means that their actions are effective in preventing smuggling in international waters.
Royal Navy effectiveness
The Royal Navy's successes in 2023 highlight the importance of the permanent presence of British naval forces in the Middle East region. Permanent cooperation with international bodies such as CTF150 enables effective action against drug trafficking and ensures safety in international waters. These actions not only benefit the UK itself, but also the global community, ensuring stability and security.
