Antimine Shield Ships in Świnoujście

On Friday, September 27, the NATO Permanent Defense Force Team Group 1 (SNMCMG-1) will enter the War Port in Świnoujście. The host of the visit is the 8th Coast Defence Fleet.

The team's ships will dock at the Port of War September 27th in the morning. SNMCMG-1 currently operates: a flagship – Danish HDMS Thetis and min destroyers: Belgian BEL Bellis and Narcis, Dutch HNLMS Urk, Latvian LVNS Talivaldis, German FGS Wielheim, Norwegian HNoMS Rauma and two Danish drones designed to combat mines. The team is commanded by Royal Danish Navy officer Commander Peter Krogh.

The purpose of the visit is to complement stocks before further tasks are carried out at sea and, above all, to deepen cooperation and exchange experience with MCM. During the visit, several working meetings will be held with representatives of the Polish Navy and the authorities of the city of Świnoujście. The visit will end on Monday 30 September.

The main task of the NATO Standing Mine Countermeasures Group One (SNMCMG-1) ships is to maintain the safety of navigation by searching for, detecting and destroying dangerous underwater objects. In addition, the team's important task is to demonstrate the solidarity of allied members and to carry out one of the most important common tasks, namely ensuring the safety of maritime communication routes.

In this way, the team's ships form a mine defence system on marine waters known as the mine shield for Europe. These forces may also be directed to support anti-terrorism operations, life-saving actions and emergency response. Working visits of NATO flag ships in Polish ports aim to develop friendly relations and mutual knowledge of the conditions, work and equipment of seafarers. They are also used to exchange experience of carrying out tasks at sea.
