ORP Slązak returned from the North Sea

On Monday, December 7, the ORP Slazak patrol vessel returned to its home War Port in Gdynia. The unit completed more than a week of operational-military research conducted on the North Sea watershed.

Ship crew carried out in the North Sea, testing and checking of ship systems and equipment. This was another element of operational-military research after the Baltic Sea. Operational and military research carried out in the North Sea will allow for the development of procedures for the combat use of equipment and weapons on the equipment of ORP Slązak.

ORP Slazak is a class patrol corvette ship designed according to the MEKO A-100 concept at the German shipyard Blohm und Voss in Hamburg. The unit is part of the Battleship 3rd Fleet. The construction of the unit began in 2001. The celebration of the first launch and naming the ORP Ślązak was held on July 2, 2015 at Naval Shipyard (now War Shipyard). Maria Waga became the godmother.

The purpose of the ship is to combat water, air and asymmetric threats, as well as patrolling and protecting the approach tracks and maritime communication lines, escorts and protection of commercial units. The unit is also adapted to control maritime routes as part of multinational forces, combating piracy and maritime terrorism, cooperating with special forces to safeguard their activities and participate in humanitarian and environmental actions.

The ship is 99.4 metres long, width exceeding 13 metres, dive 4.2 meters and displacement 2200 tons. Its armament is 76 mm OTO MELARA SR cannon, two 30 mm MARLIN-WS cannon, as well as four large caliber machine guns 12.7 mm WKM-Bm and four PTZR Grom rocket launchers. The ship's propulsion system consists of two MTU diesel engines with a power of 4406 hp each and a GE/Avio LM 2500 gas turbine with a power of 29920 hp. Thanks to the use of this type of drive and the equipment of the forward streamer Schottel, the ship has excellent maneuverability.
