ORP Wigry after modernization transferred to the Navy

PGZ Stocznia Wojenna handed over to the Polish Navy the upgraded ORP base trawler Wigry (644) Project 207M. It is the fourth ship of this type that completed the main repair connected with the replacement of the propulsion system in the Gdynia shipyard.

Works on the ORP Wigry completed earlier than expected. As part of the main repair, the ship received a new propulsion system with a control system, as well as a new ship power plant with a PMS power management system.

The modernization also included retrofitting the trawler with new ship equipment. Some new systems and equipment had to be adapted to existing ship installations.

New systems on the ORP Wigry

As part of the modernization to the ORP Wigry a satellite VSAT communication system was installed, among other things. The ship also received a new workboat and a rolling stock with solutions allowing their transport horizontally and vertically.

According to the PGZ of the Naval Shipyard, the changes are intended to increase the capabilities of the ship and to improve the working conditions of the trawler crew.

The work was carried out with difficulties in the timely delivery of parts of equipment and materials. Despite this, the yard completed the modernisation before the scheduled deadline. The solutions used were checked during the pre-shipping tests The Navy of Poland.

Fourth upgraded trawler 207M project

ORP Wigry is the fourth base trawler of the 207M project that went into PGZ Naval Shipyard main repair combined with the replacement of the propulsion system.

The modernization of subsequent 207 ships allows the Polish Navy to maintain anti-mineal capabilities in parallel with the introduction of new Kormoran II mine destroyers.
