Szczecin Shipyard Cleaning and Painting Centre equipped with modern, ecological compressor

On Tuesday, January 15, SSN adopted a compressed air station designed to operate the OCM SSN shotgun chambers. The latest investment was made by the Łódź company Walter Kompressortechnik Polska. The cost of the investment is approximately PLN 900 thousand. The investment was implemented in the formula "Design and Build". The investment in the Cleaning and Painting Centre will allow to apply for environmental permits, as the emissions cleaning level reaches 98%. Guarantee time – 5 years.

The Cleaning and Painting Centre occupies a central place in the technological production process of ships, between the processing and prefabrication process of sections and blocks, and the assembly centres of ships on the ramp.

Working technology The Cleaning and Painting Centre (OCM) is based on compressed air. The work of shotgun towers, the automation of painting chambers, as well as the implementation of painting processes, requires the provision of compressed air with appropriate technical parameters. In order to ensure the operation of the OCM centre, an investment process was launched to purchase and install a local compressed air station designed to operate two chambers. The station is equipped with a compressor with peripheral devices, a 10m tank3 and control automation connected to the central network of OCM controllers The station will allow the production of compressed air depending on the demand of 10 – 45 m3Min at 9 bar. The quality of the air supplied is defined as class 2-2-1, which complies with the requirements of the defined technological documentation of the OCM (dry, unoiled air). The electrical power of the compressor equipped with inverter is 315 kW. Almost all the electrical power used by the compressor is turned into heat. For this reason, energy accounts for about 82% of all air production costs, which is very important with rising energy storage costs. During the construction of the station, a dedicated heat channel was designed and built with automatic throttles allowing recovery of 100% heat and directing it to the engine room of the shotgun chambers. The heat generated will save the heat that should be independently purchased for the heating of the engine room.

So far, OCM's supply to compressed air has been implemented with local, mobile aggregates supporting workflows in chambers. Previously used compressor stations from 1995 to 2009 all heat emitted into the atmosphere. The proper location of the compressor shall minimise losses in transmission of electricity and compressed air.

List of devices included in the new installation:

  1. SF 315 KS screw compressor with inverter, direct drive 1×1, performance 10-45 m3/min, working pressure 10.0 bar, engine power 315 kW
  2. Adsorption dryer WAD 2700, cold regenerated, performance 45 m3/min.
  3. The dew point controller.
  4. Prefilters WFDNY 3200 ( 2 pcs ) 0,01 microna
  5. Accurate filter WFDNX 3200 1 micron,
  6. WFDNP prefilter 3200 5 microns,
  7. Tank 10 m3,
  8. Installation of water separator -oil, heaters, filters.
  9. Installation of heat recovery with automatic by-pass for summer.
  10. Electrical power supply, control, lighting, anti-freezing.

The construction of a central compressor (a total of 6 compressors) is considered, subject to the expected need for compressed air resulting from the launch of subsequent technological processes in the yard and the planned increase in production volume. The basic criterion for selecting equipment and locations is the possibility of heat recovery and the minimisation of losses in transmission of electricity and compressed air.
