The last LNG transport from Qatar reached the Świnoujście. The ship sailed before the escalation of the conflict

The LNG terminal in Świnoujście reached the transport of liquefied natural gas from Qatar, which went to sea even before the escalation of the armed conflict between the United States and Israel and Iran. The unit left Ras Laffan port in mid-February before the situation in the Middle East deteriorated rapidly.

LNG delivery to Świnoujście carried out before the attacks on LNG infrastructure in Qatar

On Tuesday morning a 300-metre gas tanker entered the Świnouian terminalDuhailIMO number 9337975, flying the flag of the Bahamas. It contained about 90 thousand liquefaction tonsLNG gasintended for Poland. The ship has begun its voyage one of the world's largest gas complexes in Ras Laffan.

Following the start of armed action and the 28 February attacks by the United States and Israel against targets in Iran, the Tehran authorities took reprisal action. As a result, gas infrastructure in Ras Laffan was attacked twice, as we informedon our portal. In the first days of March Qatar decided to stop both production and gas exports.

QatarEnergy then informed about the launch of the so-called "force majeure" procedure, indicating that exceptional circumstances prevent the realisation of LNG supplies. This clause exempts the parties to the contracts from liability for default if their implementation is prevented by events outside the control of the supplier.

The importance of the Ormuz Strait for global LNG supply

Qatar is responsible for about one fifth of global LNG exports, with almost all sea transport of raw material taking place through the Strait of Ormuz. Recently, shipping in this area has been severely restricted. Damages to gas installations in Qatar remain an additional problem.

For Poland, the cataric gas supply has remained one of the important elements in recent yearsimport structures. The energy minister Miłosz Motyka pointed out in March, in 2025 LNG from Qatar accounted for about 20 percent of the total volume of deliveries of this raw material to the country. In the same year Poland imported approximately 2 billion cubic meters of gas from Qatar, which placed this direction second among import sources.

The largest supplier is the United States, with approximately 5.6 billion cubic metres of gas imported in 2025.
