OT Logistics: good prospects for group port terminals in 2019

The OT Logistics Group's maritime terminal, the largest port operator in Poland and the leader in inland waterway transport in Central and Eastern Europe, benefit from a good situation for port handling, supported by rapid economic growth of the country. The Group expects that favourable market conditions and the development of cooperation with existing contractors in the handling of coal handling and transport will allow for the continuation of the increase in the weight of goods transhipped in 2019.

– The continued prosperity of the bulk cargo market and the development of cooperation in coal handling and transport with our existing counterparties should allow OT Logistics ports to increase the volume of handling this year. We are pleased that new year has opened up new opportunities for our terminals, which allow even more efficient use of their potential. We have proven to our contractors that we are a proven partner, which results in increasing the scope of our cooperation," says Daniel Ryczek, Member of the Management Board of OT Logistics S.A. "We also hope that the negative trend in the agro market will reverse in 2019, allowing our ports to fully exploit the potential of investments made in recent years and to return to growth in this segment," adds Daniel Ryczek.

According to the data of the Ministry of Maritime Economy and Inland Shipping, transhipments in Polish seaports increased last year by about 16% y/y to over 101 million tonnes, mainly through bulk goods and containers. The Polish port terminals of the OT Logistics Group, OT Port Gdynia and OT Port Świnoujście, also benefit from increased demand for theCargo mass loads, as well as steel products or chemicals.

– The port terminals of the OT Logistics Capital Group confirmed last year that they deservedly enjoy the trust of our contractors and are a proven and certain business partner. Thanks to the successful end of the year OT Port Gdynia defended the 2017 transshipment result, while OT Port Świnoujście saw more than 40% increase in r/r transshipment," says Karol Bowżik, Director of the OT Logistics Port Division. – We are pleased with the first symptoms of reversing the negative trend in the agro market. The year 2018 was a difficult time for this segment due to conditions on the Polish cereals market, but we hope that in 2019 we will return to growth in this segment. However, the situation with regard to coal, ore and coke is very good. OT Port Świnoujście, our specialized bulk terminal, significantly increased the handling of these raw materials in 2018. In OT Port Gdynia, in turn, we observed an increase in the handling of steel and steel products, chemical products and other bulk products," adds Karol Bowżik.
