Matching students on the ORP Kraków ship: Tradition and honour in Świnoujście schools

In the heart of the 8th Coast Defence Fleet, on board the ORP Kraków, on 29 September there was a ceremony of matching students of the first class of the Polish Naval School No. 1 in Świnoujście. The traditional ritual of touching with a chalice and an officer cordon testified about the beginning of their educational journey.

Matching as a student has become one of the most important moments in the life of young residents of Świnoujście. Children from the first classes of Primary School No. 1, bearing the honorable name of the Polish Navy, had a unique opportunity to experience this moment on board the ORP Kraków ship.

Under the watchful eye of the commander and the officers of the ship, more than 100 students entered the traditional ceremony. In the presence of sailors, proud parents, teachers, and peers, the students made a vow on the school's flag, promising a conscientious teaching and loyalty to their student duties. Parents also promised to support their school careers.

The school director, Mrs. Renata Szczokzarz, in connection with their accession to the student community, wished young students education to achieve success in science. The ceremony was further emphasized by the artistic program prepared by the freshmans, and at the end each of the children received a commemorative diploma.

Matching a first-class student aboard a warship became a permanent tradition which began in 1970, when Primary School No. 1 in Świnoujście adopted the Polish Navy as its patron. Every year the school and the 8th Defence Fleet The coast join forces to celebrate this important moment in the lives of young students. This event, in such a unique setting, will surely stay in the memory of the participants for many years.
