PGNiG OD and Lotos Asfalt conducted the first LNG bunkering in Szczecin

PGNiG Retail Rotation – a subsidiary of the Polish Petroleum Mining and Gas Industry (PGNiG) – and Lotos Asfalt – a company of the Lotos Group – conducted the first bunkering of the vessel with liquefied natural gas at the harbour in Szczecin, provided the companies.
"Together with the Lotos Group, we have already carried out several dozen bunkering operations, i.e., in colloquially refuelling, liquefied natural gas vessels. We are glad that the service is gaining popularity and after Gdańsk and Gdynia its implementation is possible in subsequent Polish ports. We are convinced that LNG fuel is the future of maritime transport in the Baltic," said PGNiG president Jarosław Wróbel, quoted in the communication.
"Energy transformation motivates us to step up action in the field of alternative fuels. One of the directions of our development is LNG – clean and safe fuel. In order to promote this segment of the market, among others, the development of logistics infrastructure and bunker LNG is needed. The Lotos Group examines various projects in this area. The company has recently completed a feasibility study on the construction of a small scale LNG transshipment terminal in Gdańsk, which is already in the final stage of internal corporate decisions," added Lotos Group president Paweł Jan Majewski.
The LNG bunkering operation was carried out on the harbour wharf in Szczecin using cryogenic tanks. LNG fuel went to the vessels of the ship "Scheldt River", performing work on dredging the Świnoujście-Szczecin water track.
The cooperation of the Lotos and PGNiG Group in the LNG area has been ongoing for several years. In addition, PGNiG is a natural gas supplier for the Lotos Group, where it is used in oil refining processes, is recalled.
"We observe growing interest in bunkering in Polish ports among shipowners. This is due to the growing awareness that LNG – as an alternative shipping fuel – is the only mature solution that can meet current and future issue standards, while at the same time cost-effectiveness" - stated PGNiG President from Henryk Mucha.
‘The service of bunkering LNG fuel naturally complements the offer of low sulphur marine fuels that Lotos Asfalt directs to its customers. Shipowners are increasingly bringing dual-fuel ships into their fleet, and our goal as a supplier is their comprehensive bunkering service. Cooperation with PGNiG in this dimension brings mutual benefits to both companies. It should be assessed as developmental in the context of low-carbon regulation in the world," noted President Lotos Asphalt Cezary Godzuk.
PGNiG Retail Turnover provides LNG bunkering service in five ports in Poland (Szczecin, Świnoujście, Police, Gdynia, Gdańsk). So far, it has conducted bunkering for 12 different ships.
