PGNiG: 15 thousand autocysterns from LNG have left Świnoujście

Since the beginning of this year at the LNG terminal im. President Lech Kaczyński has already been loaded with 5454 auto tankers carrying liquefied natural gas. Compared to the whole of 2020, this increase is over 60 percent.

– The dynamics of the sale of liquefied natural gas by PGNiG is constantly growing, which confirms both the attractiveness of LNG itself and our commercial offer. Liquefied natural gas is not only a product, it is also a way of equalising the chances and ensuring access to low-carbon fuel where the national gas network does not reach. We are determined to ensure further intensive development of this gas segment – said Paweł Majewski, President of the Management Board of PGNiG SA.

Liquefied natural gas sold at the terminal In Świnoujście comes from deliveries which are delivered to the terminal by LNG tankers, including Qatar and the USA. Most cargo is regasificationable and in volatile form is injected into the transmission pipeline system. However, some remain liquefied, allowing fuel to be transported with special auto-cisterns. In this case, LNG is only regasified at the customer – in production plants, recreational facilities or in stations supplying local gas networks that do not have a connection to the nationwide network.

PGNiG launched LNG sales in Świnoujście in April 2016. The first milestone – 5,000 loaded auto tankers – was achieved after 41 months. It took 17 months to reach another 5,000 and less than 11 months to reach the next 5,000. This shows growing dynamics sale of small LNG by PGNiG. In total, 15,000 auto tankers loaded so far at the President Lech Kaczyński Terminal delivered 263.5 thousand tons of LNG, which, after regasification, gives more than 0.3 billion cubic metres of natural gas.

PGNiG offers liquefied natural gas not only in the terminal in Świnoujście. The company produces LNG in plants in Odolanów and Grodzisk Wielkopolski. It also offers it at the LNG handling station located within the Lithuanian port in Klaipeda. PGNiG has been an exclusive station user since April 2020. The installation serves both customers in the Baltic countries and in Poland. LNG to the transhipment station is supplied by ships. Until now, PGNiG has received 10 deliveries in Klaipeda.
