PGZ Stocznia Wojenna And Nauta builds an intelligence ship for the Swedish Navy

On Friday, a ceremonial position of the keel under the intelligence ship for the Royal Swedish Navy was held on the PGZ of the Naval Shipyard. This is the implementation of the contract signed in April.
The new 2.2,000-tonne ship will measure 74 m long and replace the used HSwMS Orion unit (A201), launched in 1984 in Karlskron. It's a used unit that was built with the support of the U.S. NSA National Security Agency. Its replacement into a newer type vessel was approved by the Swedish authorities in 2010. The Swedish Ministry of Defence considered that the unit does not meet the current safety rules at sea and is unable to carry out its tasks under modern conditions. The Ministry commissioned the construction of a new ship to Saab, which in turn commissioned a significant part of the work of Nauta Shiprepair Yard, belonging to the Polish Armed Forces Group. This in turn turned to PGZ War Shipyard, which will build the hull of a new intelligence unit. The first burning sheet for a new ship took place in March this year.

The total value of the order that Saab received from the Swedish government is 730 million Swedish krona, or over 307 million PLN. Neither PGZ nor Saab revealed the value of the order, which was directed to Nauta in April. It is also unknown how much he will earn PGZ Stocznia Wojenna. This information is a trade secret.
The ship is to be delivered to the Swedish Navy in 2020. According to official communications, Nauta shipyard is responsible for building the ship, launching and carrying out the first sea trials. PGZ Stocznia Wojenna as a civilian subcontractor, the yard will build a new hull for Swedes.
PGZ President Konrad Konefal of War Shipyard said on Friday that the acquired contract "opens a new chapter in the history of the War Shipyard".
"The last keel was laid in the yard more than 10 years ago, so it is such a symbolic moment of new breath in the shipbuilding infrastructure," said the Chief of the Naval Shipyard. – Together with Nauta we will build the ship almost entirely, because only specialized devices related to signal detection, cryptography, which is protected by the Swedish side, will be installed in Karlskron," added Konrad Konefał.
The president of Saab Kockums Gunnar Wieslander said during the ceremony that radio-electronic reconnaissance ships, such as the one built by the War Shipyard and Nauta, are primarily used to capture and analyse radio signals.
– They must be reliable and have a high readiness for tasks. Therefore, shipyards with exceptional industrial competences are needed to build them," stressed the head of the Swedish company.
