First Polish gondolas at Baltic Power offshore wind farm

The Baltic Power wind farm built on the Baltic Sea has installed further turbines with a power of 15 MW, including the first three with gondolas produced in the Szczecin Vestas factory. This is a crucial moment, because for the first time, elements of this scale – crucial for offshore turbines – built in our country.

Baltic Power is a joint investment of ORLENU and Northland Power, at the same time the most advanced offshore wind energy project in Polish Baltic Zone. The first megawatt hours are scheduled to go online in 2026. According to the investor, the farm will be able to cover about 3% of national energy demand.
We are determined to get electricity from our first Baltic Power offshore wind farm to cover up to 3% of national demand next year. There is a key investment phase in which advanced work takes place at sea. We install the first wind turbines to which part of the gondola was produced in the Polish factory, in Szczecin. We consistently strive to maximise the potential of local suppliers. Marine wind farms are not only an impulse for the development of Pomerania, but also for the construction of a new, forward-looking Polish industryu.

Turbines reach more than 250 m high with foundations, and the diameter of the wheel marked by shovels exceeds the surface of six football pitches. Part of the structure, like the upper segments of towers, was made of recycled steel, which allowed to reduce the carbon footprint by up to 10%.

Polish gondolas and increasing domestic industry contribution
Polish industry is widely involved in the project. In addition to the Vestas gondol, the country produces elements of offshore power stations, land cables and transitional structures. Polish companies are also responsible for the service base in Łeb and the power station in Choczevo municipality.

Baltic Power is expected to produce up to 4 TWh of energy per year. The farm covers 130 km2 and is located 23 km from the shore, at the height of Łeba and Choczev. By announcement investors are expected to become a model project for further offshore investments in the Polish part of the Baltic.
