The first offshore installation terminal in Świnoujście will start in 2025

The first installation terminal in Poland located in Świnoujście and Vestas turbine factory in Szczecin are new investments related to Baltic Power offshore wind farm. These are two new investments in Baltic Power offshore wind farm.

PKN Orlen has just signed an agreement with the Board of Maritime Ports Szczecin and Świnoujście, concerning the lease for 30 years of 20 ha of the site under the installation terminal in Świnoujście.

We plan to complete this investment in one of the most modern installation ports in the world at the turn of 2024 and 2025.

The joint project of the Orlen and Northland Power Group will use 76 modern turbines with a power of 15 MW from Vestas each, the components of which will be produced in a new factory in Szczecin. The plant will employ up to 700 people.

Since the beginning of the preparations for the implementation of our first offshore wind farm, we have consistently sought to make full use of the potential of the Polish economy. The decision to build an installation terminal in Świnoujście and a new turbine factory in Szczecin proves that offshore wind farms have a chance not only to revolutionize the national energy system but also to be an impetus for the development of the entire region. In addition to the advanced Baltic Power project we also requested 11 new concessions for offshore wind farms in the Polish part of the Baltic. This is a huge opportunity for our suppliers, as well as other cities like Gdańsk, where the construction of a second installation port and Łeb is planned, where a service port will be built by 2025. Strategic investment in infrastructure and experience gained from cooperation with global leaders is a way to build a new, forward-looking sector of Polish industry.

The Orlen Group's investment in the construction of the installation terminal in Port Świnoujście is crucial both from the point of view of the Baltic Power project schedule and subsequent projects in the Polish part of the Baltic planned until 2040 by Orlen Neptune. The terminal area of approximately 20 ha will be equipped with offshore wind farm components, including turbines produced by Vestas.

Each of the two available quays will allow the preliminary assembly of wind turbine towers with a height of more than 100 metres and a mass of about 1,000 tonnes each. The length of the waterfront, which is 250 metres in both cases, will enable the operation of the largest currently available special jack-up vessels for the installation of offshore wind farm components. According to the plan, the port will start working in 2025, and in the course of the installation work will employ about 100 people, stressed.

Our goal is to create a fully universal port. This is also our response to the expectations of investors wanting to tie their business with ports in Szczecin and Świnoujście. We are all the more pleased that the RES industry has noticed this potential. We plan that in 2025 the terminal will enter the operating phase with approximately 80 offshore wind turbines per year.

The first project implemented using the installation terminal in Świnoujście will be the Baltic Power farm. It is currently the most advanced project in Polish Baltic waters. The company has already secured all key elements of the offshore wind farm within the supply chain, in which also companies from Poland participate.

The Baltic Power Wind Farm will use 76 15 MW turbines each supplied by Vestas. These are currently one of the most modern turbines available on the market, and Baltic Power will be one of the first in the world to be installed.

Cooperation with Vestas includes the supply and installation of turbines and providing their full service for up to 15 years. In addition, the company, recognizing the potential for further development of offshore wind projects implemented in Poland, decided to locate a new factory of components of offshore wind turbines in Szczecin, due to the material.

The wind industry helps create sustainable and reliable energy systems, while providing a wide range of social and economic benefits. This includes creating new jobs throughout the value chain. Both the information about our cooperation with the Baltic Power project and the new Vestas factory today are concrete examples of the contribution to the development of the wind energy sector.

At the new Vestas factory, gondolas and turbine hubs will be installed. The facility located in West Pomerania will provide manufactured elements to both the Polish and global markets. The factory is expected to start operations in the second half of 2024 and will create 600 to 700 jobs. Thus, it will be the largest production plant in Poland directly related to the offshore wind farm sector.

The Baltic Power farm, with power up to 1.2 GW, will be located approximately 23 km from the shore at the height of Choczev and Łeba. The construction is planned to be completed in 2026.
