PKN Orlen brought about 130 000 tonnes of oil from the North Sea

An oil tanker arrived in Naftoport, Gdańsk, which PKN Orlen imported from Norwegian deposits in the North Sea. Orlen brought in about 130 thousand tons of oil Johan Sverdrup, reported PKN Orlen on Monday.

"The Orlen Group brought some 130 000 tonnes of oil to Johan Sverdrup from Norwegian deposits in the North Sea. A tanker with raw material purchased by the company came to Naftoport in Gdańsk. PKN Orlen also agreed on increased quantities of other non-eastern deliveries. The measures taken fully safeguard the continuity of production in the refineries of the Orlen Group in Poland, the Czech Republic and Lithuania" – stated on Monday's PKN Orlen release.

Addedthat these activities are a continuation of the diversification of oil supply by the company over the last four years. It was recalled that in 2013, as much as 98 percent of the raw material processed in Płock was Rebco oil, or from the East. Currently, this species is processed in only about 50%, the rest comes from Saudi Arabia, the USA, West Africa and Norway.

"The purchase of raw material from Norwegian deposits is another example of our diversification of oil supply, which guarantees the stability and continuity of the work of our refineries and strengthens Poland's energy security. The demand of the Orlen Group for oil in the country, after being merged with the Lotos Group, will amount to approximately 26 million tonnes per year. The scale matters. It will allow further development and strengthening of relations with global raw material producers. This is the strategic goal of building a multi-energy company. The agreements we have signed as part of the Lotos merger process include the supply of up to 20 million tonnes of high-quality raw material from a certain source and mean a closer trade relationship. This will increase the company's independence and energy security of the whole region," said PKN President Orlen Daniel Obietek.

The communication added that there is no shortage of fuel in Poland and that, if necessary, Orlen has the possibility of replenishing supplies from both two Group refineries in the Czech Republic and from a refinery in Możajki. For refineries in Lithuania transport is possible by rail and sea. First, however, the refineries of the Orleń Group in the Czech Republic and Lithuania will satisfy the needs of the region. Orlen also stated that all logistics processes related to the supply of fuels were secured and that there was no interruption in the operation of terminals and warehouse bases.

"The company is prepared to buy fuel at stations. This is the effect of previous investments and decisions made by PKN Orlen Management Board. In April 2021 OTP, the largest liquid fuel road carrier in Poland, was purchased, which today allows the company to fully control the product throughout the logistics chain. On the other hand, in June 2021, a fuel handling terminal was purchased in Mockavia, on the Polish-Lithuanian border, so that, with the exception of Belarus, a large volume of diesel and petrol production from the refinery in Mockavia, Lithuania, can enter the Polish market" - stated PKN Orlen.

It was recalled that the company owns its own railway company Orlen KolTrans, which delivers fuel to practically all the bases of the company throughout the country. It was added that storage capacity in PKN Orlen terminals has also been increased for four years.

Wskazano, że koncern jest aktywny na cały świecie i wykorzystuje każdą możliwość podjęcia szerszej współpracy z dostawcami z Europy i spoza kontynentu. Do Polski dociera ropa naftowa m.in. z Nigerii, Zjednoczonych Emiratów Arabskich, Arabii Saudyjskiej, czy Stanów Zjednoczonych, a także z Norwegii. Ze złóż na Morzu Północnym koncern pozyskuje takie gatunki ropy, jak: Forties, Oseberg, Johan Sverdrup, Troll, Brent czy Ekofisk. Z kolei z Afryki Zachodniej sprowadzana jest ropa Forcados i Bonny Light. W koszyku dostaw Grupy Orlen znajdują się też gatunki WTI, Bakken i Mars wydobywane w Stanach Zjednoczonych.
