Petro Giant platform reached B3

The Petro Giant platform owned by LOTOS Petrobaltic reached the B3 deposit. The entire operation began on 22 December at 1 p.m., when the unit left the North Port pool. Now she is waiting for positioning and preloads – i.e. loading and stabilizing the platform at the stop. At the beginning of the year it will begin reconstruction works of 7 wells (B3-5, B3-6, B3-8, B3-9, B3-13, B3-14, B3-15).
The entire operation from preparation through towing, post positioning and prealody totals approximately 68 h. The towing distance of the platform is 76 nautical miles. Three tugboats took part in the operation: Bazalt – owned by LOTOS Petrobaltic and Fairplay XVI and Akul subsidiary, which took over the platform after it was removed from the Naftoport pool from port tugboats. The weather window allowed the platform to exit the port. The weather conditions for such operations are strictly defined. Wind up to 25 knots and waves not exceeding 2 m. The entire operation was supervised by the commander of the Tow Master towing operation – Captain Dariusz Pańczyak.
GIANT LOTOS Petrobaltic purchased the platform from MAERSK in June this year. It is the fifth and largest of all units belonging to this Gdańsk company. Built in 1986 in Japan, the platform was fully upgraded in 2012. Previously, a platform owned by the Danish shipowner operated in the waters of the North Sea. At the end of September, the unit reached Gdańsk, where it was subjected to the adaptation work required for re-certification and trained the crew. On October 22, 2019, the platform was registered by the Director of the Maritime Office in Gdynia and entered in the Register of Maritime Ships. It's flying the Polish flag.
The purpose of Petro Giant is to reconstruct and drill on the LOTOSU Baltic deposits. It can drill to a depth of 25,000 feet (7,620 m). Its first task will be to reconstruct 7 B3 wells to increase the volume of hydrocarbon extraction.
