Port Gdańsk receives €100 million from the European Union

Port Gdańsk noted a great success in obtaining EU funds for the development of its infrastructure. With funding of nearly €100 million from the Connecting Europe Facility for the period 2021-2027 (CEF 2), the port will be able to carry out an ambitious project called "Improving the infrastructure of the Port of Gdańsk with an analysis of the implementation of the low-carbon OPS system for the sustainable development of the TEN-T network".

From the moment of the request to the European Commission In January of this year, Port Gdańsk won a full grant amount of EUR 99 586 250. This is undoubtedly a huge support for port development and competitiveness in the international market.

The President of the Port of Gdańsk, Łukasz Malinowski, believes that the implementation of this project will bring many benefits. The redevelopment of the waterfront will allow the operation of larger units with more immersion, which will increase port capacity and increase ship-handling standards. Additionally, thanks to investments, working conditions will be improved and the quality of ship service will be higher.

The project involves redevelopment of four further inland port quays, whose total length is 1916 metres. With the modernisation of the waterfront, adequate rail and underground infrastructure will be provided. The Wiślane and Bytomskie Coasts, located along the Port Canal, and the Rudowe III and Coal Coasts, located in the Mining Basin, will be renovated.

The Vice-President of the Port of Gdańsk, Kamil Tarczewski, informs that three tender procedures have already been announced in order to select contractors of construction works on the Rudowy, Bytomski and Wiślany quays. In the third quarter of 2023, a fourth tender for the coal wharf is planned. In this way, the port consistently pursues its assumptions and promotes dynamic development.

The project also provides for a detailed analysis of the implementation of the offshore supply system at the Gdańsk Port (OPS – Onshore Power Supply). This study will include an analysis of current OPS solutions in other seaports, an assessment of ship preparation for receiving electricity from the mainland, a determination of the demand for such power supply at the Port of Gdańsk and a plan to implement this new technology.

The investment period was planned for 2023-2027. The port of Gdańsk has ambitious development goals and thanks to the funds received from the European Union will be able to implement its plans, which will benefit not only the port itself, but also the whole region and the Polish economy.
