Port of Gdańsk: over 58 million tonnes of goods were transhipped within 9 months.

Port Gdańsk summed up three quarters of this year. Over 58 million tonnes of goods were transhipped during this period. Still the dominant cargo group are liquid fuels, mainly oil and petroleum products, accounting for more than half of the total transhipments.

Record handling in Naftoprot

The main operator, the Naftoport terminal, from year to year beats records of transhipments. Everything seems to be similar this year. Its turnover in the first three quarters amounted to about 30 million t. This is nearly 8 percent more than in the same period.

The current handling capacity is 36 million tonnes of oil and 4 million tonnes of oil products per year. In addition, the company is preparing for expansion, planning to build a sixth transhipment site, which will allow for an increase in the collection of oil by another 9 million tonnes per year.

Smaller and coal in Port Gdańsk

In second place in Port Gdańsk in terms of volume there is a generality, mainly contensified. The general terminals, including the Baltic Hub container, overcharged 17.7 million tonnes of goods (4.5 percent more than in the same period last year).

In third place there is coal, although here we have a decrease of 49 percent. In 9 months, coal terminals overcharged 5.7 million tons (mainly in the import relationship), while in 2023 it was over 11 million tons.

The dominance of liquid fuels in the Port of Gdańsk

The turnover of mass loads in the Port of Gdańsk amounted to about 2.6 million tons and cereals – over 2 million tons (a decrease of nearly 1% and 2.5 percent respectively). The largest drop marks low volume goods: ore (by 62%) and wood (56%).

This year we have a smaller volume of overcharged coal compared to the years 2022 and 2023, when due to the necessity to ensure energy security Port Gdańsk became a coal handling centre in Poland. Total handling for three quarters decreased by 4.6% compared to the same period last year. By the end of this year, there were three months left. Much indicates that we will end it with a good result, though probably lower due to smaller coal handling.

Financial and handling results of Polish ports commented on platform X Arkadius CarrotsDeputy Minister for Infrastructure:

It's very good. Comparing year to year, net profit increased in: Port Gdańsk by 30.25 million (+17%) Port Gdynia by 20.43 million (+23%) Port Szczecin-Świnoujście by 22.37 million (+25%). These are really good data that show that putting ports in the hands of professionals, as I announced, brings concrete results. With regard to transhipments, excluding coal which the former authorities imported in excessive quantities, it is also good. Polish ports in total in transhipments saw a slight increase.
