Port of Gdańsk with record of transhipments

Port Gdańsk summed up the transhipments for the first half of 2018. The half-year result is almost 20% higher than expected. Gdańsk also achieved the highest growth dynamics among Baltic ports.

Port Gdańsk has never seen such a result. The first half of 2017 closed with a result of 18.5 million tonnes. After the first six months of 2018, transhipments achieved a historical result – over 25 million tonnes of goods.

– This is another time when we prove that hard work and changing attitudes towards colleagues can really do a lot. This record is a success primarily of our contractors, because they are responsible for handling. In January we were the 6th Baltic port in terms of transhipments, now we have the fourth position – explained Łukasz Greinke, President of the Board of the Maritime Port of Gdańsk.

The highest increase was achieved by coal, which was overloaded in Gdańsk with almost 3.5 million tonnes. This is almost 67% more than in the first half of 2017. The bulk handling has developed at nearly 11 million, which means that the result is 37% better than last year. TransCargo containers increased by 44% and commercial cars by 24%.

– One of the dominant groups of goods transhipped at the Port of Gdańsk are fuel. In the first half of 2018, more than 8 million tonnes of fuel flowed through the port, or 30.6% more than from January to June of the previous year," explains Adam Kłos, Commercial Director of ZMPG.

High growth was also recorded in the other mass groups. These goods, the Gdańsk port overcharged over 1.96 million tonnes, thus reaching 21.2% better than last year.

The port of Gdańsk also achieved the highest growth dynamics among Baltic ports – almost +35%. By comparison, St. Petersburg recorded dynamics of +14%, Klaipeda +7.5%, and Riga 0.7%. Primorsk, which in the current ranking takes place before Gdańsk, recorded a 15% decrease.

"We are only 1.7 million tons from Primorsk. As we announced, we will do everything we can to be on the Baltic ports ranking. I think we're doing pretty well," says Łukasz Greinke.
