Port Gdynia bought a plot, built warehouses
Port Gdynia invests in infrastructure in order to increase capacity and improve the availability of port infrastructure. In July, the Board of Maritime Port Gdynia from Nauta Shiprepair Yard bought a plot of nearly 62 thousand sq m with buildings and equipment on it. It's about the property at 1 Washington Street in Gdynia. The port stated in its transaction communication that the purchase is related to "the acquisition of new sites for the development of port-sea functions".
– Part of this area will be dedicated to office and service buildings, and it is also being considered as a location for the cruise ship terminal. There are many opportunities to use this place – says Grzegorz Dyrmo, Vice President of the Board of the Maritime Port of Gdynia and Director of Infrastructure and Property Management.

Port Gdynia plans to build four new high-bay warehouses. In late July, he was signed a contract to build the first one. For approx. PLN 53 million, Budimex will build it in the West Port. According to the schedule, the investment is to be ready in the fourth quarter of next year. The warehouse will have 11 thousand sq mi of usable space and Budimex will also build technical and road infrastructure.
Deputy President of Gdynia Port Grzegorz Dyrmo says that the warehouse will store highly processed general goods in packaging.
– The logistics services will be connected with the storage, reception, storage, completion and packaging and the spending of stocks in the cross-docking system – he emphasises.

Finally, Port Gdynia intends to build four new warehouses. This is one of the assumptions of the port development strategy by 2030.

Moreover, in July, the port board commissioned Lotus to modernise the warehouse building at Polska Street in Gdynia. The warehouse was built in the 1930s and is counted among the architectural pearls among the industrial facilities of that period. Port Gdynia will pay PLN 7 million for modernization. The renovated facility will again be ready for use in the first quarter of 2020.
External port – flagship investment
The concept of the construction of the External Port is also beginning to take shape. In late July, the Board of Maritime Port Gdynia signed an agreement with the University of Gdańsk, which will prepare the environmental documentation needed to launch the investment.
– This is the first contract in the series of contracts – says Port President Gdynia Adam Meller. "At the moment, we are talking about an agreement that will set environmental conditions for the future External Port. The future of Gdynia is a deep-water container terminal, with the ability to operate all the largest ships that are able to reach here. Assuming that around 700-800 people will work in the terminal, it will generate at least several thousand jobs throughout the country – the vice president of the port adds.

According to the initial concepts, the External Port will measure more than 1.5 km long deep into the sea. This length will also be quay. They will be able to moor the largest units with a length of up to 490 m. The Outer Port was conceived as an extension of the Silesian Coast. At the end of the project, a LNG terminal with a gas power plant is planned to be built, so Port Gdynia will offer a service to bunker ships with liquefied gas. The design also includes the construction of the LNG bunker barge. Port Gdynia estimates that the External Port can generate as much as PLN 4.4 billion in revenue for the State Treasury from customs and tax charges. Such a result will be possible with the handling of 2 million TEU at the External Port.
Two new tenders
Port Gdynia is already carrying out investments worth PLN billion. It is the construction of a new ferry terminal and a new rotor, as well as deepening of port pools and the approach track to 17 m.
But that is not the end. A few days ago, the portal market infrastructure.pl was the first to inform that the Board of Maritime Port Gdynia had announced two further investment tenders. As part of the first one, the contractor will be selected to extend rail access to the western part and the port, and the second tender concerns the reconstruction of the Slovak Coast.
