Rotterdam port is the most polluting seaport in Europe

According to a report by Transport & Environment (T&E) published on Wednesday, the Rotterdam port is the most polluting seaport in Europe and is responsible for annual carbon emissions of 13.7 million tonnes.
According to T&E studies, emissions from shipping in Rotterdam are four times higher than those produced by one coal power plant.
Right behind the largest port in Europe was the port in Antwerp (Belgium), followed by Hamburg (Germany). They account for annual emissions of 7.4 and 4.7 million tonnes of CO2.
The organisation wants to use research to demonstrate the high climate impact of these actors. According to T&E, ports can do more to become more sustainable, for example using "green" energy from land.
As the RTL Nieuws portal reminds, last April the European Parliament decided that European shipping cannot emit greenhouse gases by 2050.
