Fire at USS Bonhomme Richard [Video]

The fire broke out aboard the USS Bonhomme landing ship Richard around 8:30 on Sunday local time, reported Polish Navy San Diego.

Seventeen sailors, as well as four civilians, are treated in a local hospital with injuries that do not endanger life, Mike Raney, spokesman for the Naval Surface Force, US Pacific Fleet, confirmed this event.

According to information, several people may be seriously injured.

At the time of the fire, there were 160 sailors aboard the ship.

Raney said that on the ship USS Bonhomme Richard, there were ongoing repairs, where approximately 1,000 people were employed.

USS Bonhomme Richard is a Wasp-type landing helicopter, serving in the US Navy since the late 1990s. The ship has a displacement of over 41,000 tons. The unit can carry, among others, landing cushions, and from its deck may operate helicopters, MV-22 Osprey shifts and AV-8B Harrier fighters. The mooring ship in San Diego was adapted from 2018 to carry and operate from its F-35B aircraft deck.
