Nearly 13% increased during the first eight months of handling in Gdynia Port

From January to August 2021, almost 13 percent of the transshipment in Port Gdynia increased compared to the first eight months of last year – the company transferred on Thursday.
"Port Gdynia after eight months of 2021 reached an increase in transhipments of 12.8% in total (August 15.2% rdr). The biggest increases were recorded in cargo groups: wood +112.5 percent (in August 607.1 percent), oil and petroleum products +70.7%, (in August 26.4%)" - said the Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications of the Maritime Board of Gdynia Port (ZMPG) Marcin Wojciechowski.
He pointed out that during the first eight months of this year an upward trend in container handling could also be observed. "This increase was 11.9 percent in TEU," Wojciechowski said.
"We have a very interesting situation on the container market at the moment, as the availability of containers on the market is limited and supply chains are not stable. For the Port of Gdynia it proved to be an opportunity, not a threat," said ZMPG president Jacek Sadaj, quoted in the press release.
He explained that the increases in Gdynia Port in this transhipment group are due, among others, to the launch of connections oceanand the eastern coast of the United States, Tunisia, as well as India and Pakistan. "This has a profound impact on the volume of transhipments, including because these connections are operated by larger units," said Sadaj.
