Prime Minister: the areas in which we are most likely different from Germany are the Nord Stream 2 issue

The areas in which we are most likely different from Germany are the Nord Stream 2 issue; I believe that this pipeline will provide additional tools for blackmailing Ukraine and Poland – Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki stressed during the video conference with representatives of German business.

Speaking of security issues, which is very important for all businesses, the Prime Minister noted that "the future of Europe depends not only on how beautiful the visions we will present to Europeans, and how quickly we will be able to adapt by formulating new programs, but it is important that we have a political response to what is happening now."

"And such events take place beyond our eastern border, which you know very well, because you also run business there. We would also like to run business with both Russia and Belarus in a peaceful way, but it takes two to tango, which is why both sides must be responsible. But we must be at the same time sensitive to the dangers that come to us from these directions" - said Morawiecki.

Therefore, he added that "we are very pleased that we can work very closely with Germany and with France at Council of Europe level in terms of the security risks we see." "And the areas in which we are most likely different are the Nord Stream 2 issue. I believe that this gas pipeline will provide additional tools for blackmailing Ukraine and Poland, and these tools will be handed over to the President of Russia Vladimir Putin," said the Prime Minister.

But – as he stressed – "Germany has different priorities". "That is why I would also like to mention this in the context of our discussion today, because I think we should still talk about it," said the head of the Polish government.

Morawiecki also said that at the base of our program there are changes to the tax system. "This includes tax facilitation for many companies, lower CIT, so-called Estonian CIT, zero PIT for some companies, but also some facilitations for innovative companies as well as a facilitated tax system," Morawiecki pointed out.

According to him, "the tax level for some parts of the processes carried out by these companies, where the value added is generated in Poland is 5 percent". "This is one of the lowest levels in Europe, if not worldwide," the Prime Minister stressed.

Morawiecki also pointed out that one of the most important elements of our "economic wonder" of the last five years was the repair of the financial system. "Our VAT gap was one of the largest of all EU Member States five to seven years ago. We have therefore adopted the most innovative tools from the Ministry of Finance using artificial intelligence and thus trained our officials responsible for the tax system in such a way that in just two years we have become one of those countries that has one of the smallest VAT gaps" - said Mateusz Morawiecki.
