President: We act calmly and carefully

The North Atlantic Alliance is on alert. We strengthened the readiness of the Polish Armed Forces – some units, including air defense. We act calmly and prudently – said President Andrzej Duda at the night conference.

Earlier, an urgent meeting was held at the National Security Office, followed by the President discussing the current situation with allies: NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, Presidents: USA Joe Biden, Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenski, as well as British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

The president expressed his sympathy for the next two citizens who died as a result of the explosion, most likely a rocket that fell into our territory.

Andrzej Duda said that "at the moment we have no conclusive evidence of who fired the rocket, there are investigative activities." – Most likely it was a Russian production rocket, but it's all still in the process of research," he added.

He informed that he had held international consultations with allies, including the Secretary General of NATO, the President of the United States, the Prime Minister of Great Britain and the Chancellor of Germany.

– President Joe Biden clearly and clearly said that the United States absolutely upholds the alliances and are with us; all the provisions of the North Atlantic Treaty and the alliance commitments are binding," stressed Andrzej Duda, adding that the US is standing with us as a guardian of the Polish security and the entire Alliance.

The President also assured that the North Atlantic Alliance was on alert.

We strengthened the readiness of the Polish Armed Forces, some units, including air defense. Our planes are in the Polish sky today, and will also be supported by allied aircraft in guarding our sky.

Andrzej Duda also stressed that "nothing indicates that further such events are to follow at this point". – So far it can be said that what happened was a single event. There is no indication that there will be another – he said.

As he reported, it is highly likely that on Wednesday, the Polish Ambassador to NATO Tomasz Szatkowski will request the launch of Article 4 of the North Atlantic Treaty.
