Stena Line longer on the Grenaa-Halmstad line

Swedish Stena Line will stay on the Grenaa-Halmstad route longer. This is the effect of a signed contract that will extend the presence of a popular shipowner on this line until 2034. This is important news for many companies in the logistics and transport industry. Thanks to this combination they can shorten their crossing through Kattegat. The Grenaa-Halmstad merger took off on 1 February 2020, replacing the service from Varberg to Halmstad. The transfer of operations by Sten Line from Varberg to Halmstad became a necessity due to the change in the planning of space development for the port where the ferry terminal in Varberg had previously operated.

In the past, he sailed for Sten Line as Sten Freighter. In 2018, a popular ro-ro ship was redeemed by Jeff Bezos (founder of Amazon and one of the richest people in the world) the Blue Origin company, which operates in the space industry. The ship was to be used for tasks related to the implementation of the New Glenn project, consisting in the construction of a new large rocket. Stena Freighter under the new name Jacklyn was to serve as a launch base and platform on which a state-of-the-art New Glenn missile would land. The launch has not yet taken place. Meanwhile, Sten Line's old property was sold for scrap. The Blue Orgin scales reported that the project of turning the ship into a launch platform was abandoned. Jacklyn set off on her last road to Port of Brownsville, Texas.

Three state-of-the-art vessels for the European carrier

Three catamarans reached Greece, which will strengthen the fleet of one of the local operators. It is the Hellenic Seaways company, which belongs to the Attica Group, and which has recently at its disposal three modern, carbon fibre ships. They will serve to service popular connections between Pireus and nearby islands as well as ports in mainland Greece. They develop a speed of 32 knots (about 60 km/h). Each of them will take 150 passengers aboard. All three were built in Norway. The value of the investment is EUR 21 million (about PLN 100 million).

New features on the DFDS route

DFDS began testing on one of its routes, which so far served mainly for freight transport. The Danish shipowner has since this month started an experience in which passengers are also on the Rosslare-Dunkierka line. The company's authorities believe that the launch of a passenger service between the northern part of France and Ireland has a chance of success among individual customers – especially those who go on vacation. Travel time is 23 hours 45 minutes, but as the shipowner noted, a large part of it falls into night hours.

Adding passenger option to our route will strengthen the service. We expect great interest among holidayers from Ireland and Northern Europe. When travelling by ferry, there are no limits when it comes to luggage size. The cargo connection between Rosslare and Dunkirk was launched in January 2021.

Best month in the history of a popular port

After many months of drought, which has affected many industries around the world, some sectors began to recover rapidly. When it comes to tourism, it is even said that there is a crop failure, which has affected not only air transport but also many other industries. Shipowners beat records, but also ports. The Danish Hirtshals have recently seen historical results. In July this year, 630,000 passengers took advantage of it, and 190,000 passenger vehicles passed through it. This is 7 and 12 percent more than in July 2019. These are the best results in the history of this port. "We are extremely happy to see such incredible progress, both in passenger and passenger vehicles" – said Per Holm Nørgaard, head of Hirtshals Havn. This Danish port is used every day by Color Line and Fjordline.
