Damen will build five ferryelectric for Copenhagen

Shipbuilding Holding Damen Shipyards Group reported that he signed a contract to build five electric ferryfor the Danish shipping company Arriva Denmark.
The contract concerns the production and delivery of five ships, the catalogue name Damen Ferry 2306 E3. They're completely carbon-free units, driven exclusively by electricity. The Dutch shipbuilding group boasts that Damen Ferry 2306 E3 was designed for environmentally friendly, maximum efficiency and cost-effective shipping.
Arriva Denmark will use the acquired ships to carry out the order it acquired from the Danish public transport agency Movia. Ferries produced by the Damen group will support water connections in the capital of Denmark, Copenhagen.

Arriva Denmark and Damen stressed in their communication to the media that they had a common vision of reducing the environmental impact of public transport through the implementation of innovative technologies.
The Dutch shipbuilding holding company points out that as part of its tender preparation, a special team of Damen engineers conducted research to identify the best solution to meet all customer expectations. The industrial group considered using hybrid, biodiesel and electric drive. This last solution turned out to be the most ecological, and this is due to zero emissions. Damen emphasizes that from the perspective of twelve years (for such a period Arriva Denmark will use ferries to carry out an order given by Movia) this solution proved to be the most cost-effective.
The Damen Group's engineers had to show a great deal of flexibility because the important requirement in the tender was that new units could adapt to the framework set by the contracting authority. For example, the possibility of implementing the existing timetable voyageThis and adaptation to Copenhagen infrastructure. Furthermore, the contracting authority wanted new ships to be able to carry at least 60 passengers. Ferry proposed by Damen takes 80 passengers aboard and will be able to moor at the Copenhagen Bridges.

Moreover, the shipyard holding company Damen Shipyard Group declared that it would install high-speed charging points directly at the marinas ending the routes on which the ferries would sail. They are to use technologies that have already proven their worth when charging batteries used in land transport. Damen boasts that the full battery charge of the ships will only take seven minutes. This is very important for ships that will sail 16 hours a day.
Arriva Denmark Director Torben Hansen emphasises that the ships offered by the Damen group fit perfectly in the strategy of the city of Copenhagen to eliminate emissions from public transport.
"Damen turned out to be the right partner on this project," says Torben Hansen. "With experience in electric ships, the Damen Group can support us in our mission to provide Copenhagen with clean, safe, reliable and economical transport," he adds.
