Fincantieri Shipyard will build two cruise ships for Princess Cruises

The Italian shipbuilding company reported the signing of a cooperation agreement with Princess Cruises. It's a cruise line owned by Carnival Corporation. Fincantieri will build two hybrid-powered ships for her.

Fincantieri stated in its communication that ships would have 175 000 tonnes of buoyancy. They will be the largest ships to be built in Italy. He will build a shipyard in Monfalcone, owned by Fincantieri. The supplies of units were planned at the end of 2023 and the spring of 2025.

Each new ship will take 4.3 thousand visitors aboard. As Fincantieri emphasizes, these will be units based on the next generation platform. In addition, they will be the first ships in the Princess Cruises fleet powered by liquefied cold LNG gas, which will be the primary fuel supplying hybrid engines to new cruisers.

The company recently focuses on green solutions, hence the decision to equip ships with hybrid engines using LNG as primary fuel. Jan Swartz adds that new ships will use innovative design solutions, and equipping units will provide passengers with an amazing vacation at sea.

In turn, Fincantieri CEO Giuseppe Bono recalls that the Italian shipbuilding company with the Princess Cruises cruise line has been cooperating since 1990. As she adds, the ships Fincantieri will build for the shipowner will not only be the largest of these types built by Italian shipyards, but will also be units at the highest level of technological advancement. The partnership with Carnival Corporation is of particular importance to Fincantieri because, as it turns out, it is now the largest foreign investor in Italy. This cooperation allows the Italian shipbuilding group to increase employment and acquire new know-how.

Since 1990, Fincantieri has built 85 cruise ships, of which 65 for various cruise lines controlled by Carnival Corporation. Currently, Fincanieri Group's order portfolio for new cruises is 49 vessels. This figure includes units already built and designed, as well as those contracted.
