Russia: new electric torpedoes will enter arms in 2019

Deputy Director-General of the Russian Defence Company Tactical Missiles Corporation Vladimir Yarmoliuk told the TASS agency that in 2019 the serial deliveries of improved electric torpedoes for the Russian Navy would begin. New torpedoes will be armed with submarines and submarines.

UET-1 is a new universal torpedo that has better tactical and technical parameters. According to the announcement of the Russian Ministry of Defence, it is intended to replace the submarine USET-80 missiles that entered the Russian fleet's armament in 1980. This type of torpedo measures 7.9 metres long and weighs over 2,000 kilograms. It reaches a speed of 40-50 knots, and its range is 20 kilometres. The torpedo contains a warhead weighing 200-300 kilograms.

The production of torpedoes of a new type of Russian defence ministry commissioned the arms industry this year, and a five-year contract was signed on 28 February. Its value is 7.2 billion rubles, or about $126,5 million. In July, Russian media reported that in late May the first naval vessel was armed in the new type torpedoes. It is a submarine of project 636.3 of the Novorossijsk owned, serving in the Black Sea Fleet.
