Russia: trying to thwart the Nord Stream 2 project will fail

Western countries will still attempt to thwart the Nord Stream 2 project, but these tests are doomed to failure because the gas pipeline is "practically ready for the last mile" - he stated on Tuesday Chief Russian Foreign Office Sergei Lavrow at a meeting with students.
"I am convinced that all attempts to destabilize, challenge (project), all attempts to end it with some conditions, are doomed, although such attempts will be," Lavrow said. Chief The MFA spoke at a meeting with students and lecturers of the University of Immanuel Kant in Kaliningrad.
According to Lavrow, companies implementing the Russian-German pipeline project "has built it almost to the last mile".
The Minister argued that the legal rationale on the project was on the side of Russia, not the European Commission, which covered the draft with the provisions of the revised Energy Directive.
Lavrov also announced that Russia would "defend" its rations and assessed that Russia and Germany had supported the Nord Stream 2 project by many EU countries.
On 28 July, the gas pipeline operator, Nord Stream 2 AG, informed that the project was completed at 99 percent. The media in Russia then estimated that the final work would take three-four weeks.
Nord Stream 2 – a two-bit bus leading from Russia to Germany via the Baltic Sea, is to transport 55 billion cubic metres of natural gas annually. The constructions of the Russian-German pipeline are opposed by Poland, Ukraine, the Baltic States and the USA. Critics Nord Stream 2 argues, among others, that the project will increase Europe's dependence on Russian gas and expand the Kremlin's influence on European policy.
