Russia: Completed tests of the marine water-air missile system

In the Russian Ministry of Defence's "Krasnaja Zwiezda" newspaper, Naval Commander Vladimir Koroliov stated last week that the state anti-aircraft and missile defence systems of Poliment-Redut were successfully completed.
The first host of this system in the Russian Navy is the latest frigate of the project 22350 Admiral Gorszkow, which entered service last July. Earlier last year, the Russian press reported that the new system would enter regular operation in the navy in the first half of 2019. So it seems that the announced deadline was met: the commander of the Russian Navy told the Ministry newspaper that the tests of the Polyment-Redut missile system had been definitively completed. This may mean that weapons have already been derived from childhood diseases, though they do not have to. It should be borne in mind that this statement was made in the propaganda paper, which transmits the official line of the Russian Ministry of Defence.

As far as the water-air missile system itself is concerned, the Poliment-Redut (consisting, most generally, of the Redut phase radar and the Redut vertical launch missile launchers) is a ship's version of the S-350E Witiaź land-based system, which since 2017 has been introduced on the armament of Russian Armed Forces units, replacing the S-300P system. S-350E Witiaz is a medium-range system, and in the case of the Poliment-Redut system it is no longer obvious. According to information officially revealed by the Russians, the S-350E system may damage targets up to 60 km (in the case of a 9M96- missile) or up to 120 km (in the case of a 9M96-1). In the case of the range of the Poliment-Redut system, the case is complex as it can be used to fire missiles of various types. We'll go back to that below.
For now, the only ship operated by the Russian Navy to be equipped with the Polyment-Redut system is the prototype frigate of the project 22350 Admiral Gorszkow. This weapon will also carry another unit of this type – the frigate Admiral Kasatanov, who is to enter the line before the end of this year. As we have already written on the Shipyard Portal, it is now undergoing sea trials: so far, it has successfully undergone shipbuilding trials. The official Russian messages also show that this system will be carried by corvettes of the project 20380 and 20385.

Returning to the matter of the range of the Polyment-Redut air-water missile system, the Russian press agency TASS reported in a dispatch that the system could use 9M96MD missiles with a range of up to 150 km.
The Poliment-Redut system can use three types of missiles, and thanks to one of them it can be considered a long-range water-air missile system, which distinguishes it from its terrestrial older brother. But first: The first version of the missile is 9M100, designed to fire targets at a distance of 10-15 km. The second version is a 9M96M missile. It's an infrared-controlled missile with a 26 kg head. Such a rocket moves at 900 m/s and can damage targets over a distance of 40-50 km.

In turn, the third type of missile that can be fired from the Poliment-Redut system launcher is a new 9M96 missile. In his case, we are talking about a rocket capable of destroying targets moving 35 km at a distance of 150 km. It's the same rocket that's used in the ground-based S-400 Triumph missile system.
Furthermore, last year, Russian media sold information about a new type of missile that will use solutions used in 40N6, 9M96 and 9M100 missiles. The journal "Izwiestia" reported last year that a new rocket would be able to destroy targets up to 400 km from the ship. If this projectile is actually launched on weapons, Russian Navy ships will have very strong capabilities to defend the area.
