Russia has ordered further submarines of types 636.3 and 677

Russia continues to purchase proven submarines of the type Kilo and improved type Load.

During the Army 2020 trade fair, the Russian defence ministry signed contracts worth nearly $13.5 billion in total. One of the important elements of the contracts are signed with the Admiralty Shipyards of Saint Petersburg for the delivery of further units of types 636.3 and 677. Thus, the process of equipping another fleet with modern variants of proven "Warsaw" as the newly ordered vessel type 636.3 will be the first of the group to be assigned to the Baltic Fleet. It can be assumed that like the two previous series it will count 6 ships. This is all the more likely that the first series of them, currently serving in the Black Sea Fleet, was built for the Baltic and their shift southwards was triggered by the military-political crisis in the region. Moreover, the Russians have only 1 unit of primary type 877 in the Baltic: Dmitrow, slightly younger than the Polish ORP Orzeł, so the needs for new equipment are huge. It is worth adding that the first 10 Kilo/877 have been withdrawn in recent years due to the exhaustion of technical costs and the unprofitability of modernization.

The second order is important because it concerns the last, sixth unit of type Load and probably the end of the first series of planned 12 ships. It is unclear whether the construction of the second six will be undertaken, but if technical problems affecting this type have been solved since the beginning of operation, that would be a logical solution. These ships now serve one in the Baltic, North and Pacific fleets.
