Russian army on the border with Poland strengthens long-range scouts

Soldiers of this formation can "gather information far in the rear of their opponent through helicopters and parachutes. If necessary, they will easily detect particularly important facilities and guide them to aviation, artillery or maneuvering missiles, as assessed by ‘Iswiestia’.

According to the sources of the newspaper, the company in which the long-range scouts will be located will be subject to the 20th Reconnaissance Battalion created within the 18th Mechanized Division. Currently there is a recruitment to the company – the sources have passed. Soldiers of such formations should be especially well prepared physically, and then undergo training from landing and many special disciplines.

The task of such reconnaissance departments is to indicate the objectives of measures of precision and long-range destruction. As the main reconnaissance tool of "Iswiestija" they exchange apparatus allowing detection of even masked objects. This is, among others, a set of recognition, command and communication Strielec, which supports artillery, air, and above all – with the use of maneuvering missiles, systems: Calibr, Bastion and Iskander.

The scouts are also equipped with satellite and long-range radio communication systems. Military expert Viktor Murachowski told "Iswiestijom" that groups operating in the rear of the opponent are able to detect targets that drones and satellites do not see, while complementing data provided by other sources.

The 18th Mechanized Division is formed in the Kaliningrad region – a region where Russia has systematically strengthened the armed forces – since the turn of 2019 and 2020. At the end of 2020, it was announced that the new formation would appear in 2021 and would be part of the 11th Army Corps of the Land Army and the protection of the Baltic Fleet coast.
