Royal Navy: hijackers have left ship Asphalt Princess off the UAE coast

The hijackers who entered a merchant ship flying the Panamanian flag on Tuesday off the coast of the United Arab Emirates left it – she handed it over to the British on Wednesday Polish Navy.

The "potential kidnapping" of Asphalt Princess reported on Tuesday UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), a unit under the authority of the British Ministry of Defence, which deals with the provision of information to armed forces on the location of commercial vessels. A group of eight or nine armed persons were to board a ship docked off the UAE coast in the Oman Gulf.

Security sources reported to the Reuter Agency that the tanker was taken over by forces supported by Iran. Tehran denied these reports.

According to UKMTO, the attackers have left the deck, and the crew is safe now. As they stated, the case is "complete", but they did not give any details of the incident.

Information about the kidnapping came a few days after the Mercer Street tanker was attacked in the Arab Sea with a drone, as Israel, Britain and the US also accused Iran.
