Nevertheless, even after counting 10 submarines including four ballistic missile carriers with nuclear warheads, two large landing boats and eight sea-wide patrolmen (four of them are to enter service this year) it is difficult to imagine the Great Britain as a global police officer, regularly providing peace of mind to sea routes around the world, as the US Navy often does today. The role of Britain, even a lionish part of its forces, may be at most significant as a complement to the efforts of the American and navy countries neighbouring disputed areas such as the South China Sea waters.
