Patrolman HMS Trent thwarts smuggling 2.5 tons of cocaine

In the first days of May, in a spectacular operation off the Caribbean coast, the Royal Navy patrol crew, HMS Trent, thwarted smuggling 2.5 tons of $256 million worth of cocaine after smugglers threw their cargo overboard in pursuit.

Royal Navy patrol vessel, HMS Trent, introduced in 2020, played a key role in the recent seizure of drugs off the Caribbean coast. After receiving a warning from an American patrol aircraft, the crew, using radar, located a fast boat of smugglers whose course And speed matched the report.

When a patrolman HMS Trent He identified and approached the smuggler's boat, the crew – assisted by the Royal Marines and U.S. Coast Guard Tactical Law Enforcement Team personnel – immediately took action. The "hands to boarding stations" signal initiated an intense chase during which a high-speed RHIB boat was used. In the face of approaching pursuit units, smugglers in the act of desperation began throwing drug bales overboard to reduce weight and increase chances of escape.

Although smugglers temporarily disappeared in the dark, coordinated search operations allowed a comprehensive recovery of the dropped cargo. As part of this operation, the boarding team HMS Trent together with the U.S. Coast Guard stopped the smuggling unit and arrested four crew members.

The recovery operation was complex and required precise navigation and rapid operation. Through cooperation with the US Air Force, which provided us with key information on the location of the cargo, we were able to effectively secure a large amount of drugs.
