Start of construction of the first OPV type of Falaj

Emirack shipyard Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB) announced the start of construction of the first OPV type Wave 3 for the United Arab Emirates Navy (UAE).

In the last days of December, the ADSB shipyard held a sheet cutting ceremony confirming the completion of the research and design phase of new units for the United Arab Emirates Navy.

According to the company, patrol boats type Wave 3 are complex, fast patrol ships equipped with state-of-the-art combat sensors and systems. According to reports, these units are to have a major impact on the ability of the UAE to patrol the sea.

In 2021, ADSB was awarded a contract to build four type patrol boats Wave 3 for the UAE Navy. Together with its partners and with the support of the UAE Navy, the design phase was successfully completed in accordance with the timetable.

OPV type Wave-3 have: full displacement of 641 tonnes, length 60 m, width 9.5 m., dive 3.4 m., speed 26 knots, range 2000 nautical miles at 16 knots and crew 39 people. The construction of patrol ships will be based on the design of patrol ships of type Fearless produced by the Singapore shipyard ST Engineering.

The unit will be powered by four engines to reach a speed of more than 26 knots. In addition, the ship's design will reduce the infrared signature and acoustic signature to better mask it.

The integrated Falaj platform management system allows you to monitor and control all platform systems from one point. According to ADSB, a $950 million contract is the largest order the company has ever received.
