Movement of units on the Elbląg Canal resumed from Saturday

As of Saturday, the movement of units on the Elbląg Canal will resume. The movement was halted for a week after the accident in Kąty – Bogusław Pinkiewicz from the Regional Water Management Board in Gdańsk said on Friday.

In a Friday communication, the Gdańsk GSC stated that in connection with the removal of the accident on the slope in the Kąty from 8 May, the Elbląskie Canal is opened for the sake of navigation.

The slopes in Buczyniec, Kąty, Oleśnica, Całuna and Jeleńach will be open from Monday to Friday from 8.00 to 9.00 and on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from 8.00 to 9.00.

There was a breakdown on the Elbląg Canal on May 2. The derailment of the lift trolley at the angle of the carriage of the passenger ship resulted in a cessation of navigation. None of the passengers or staff were injured. Everyone was evacuated to shore.

According to RZGW in Gdańsk, after the water level decreased in the area of the Kąta slope, the trolley was located and the cause of the fault and repair of the track was determined. After removing the fault, the decision to allow the slipway to move issued Transport Technical Surveillance.

The Elbląski Canal is a unique waterway – a team of five slipways, on which ships cross on platforms set on rails. The track-extractors used for this purpose are mechanically driven by water flow.
