Romania bought two Damen patrols for SAR's services

Romanian General Inspectorate of Extraordinary Situations ordered two Damen patrols State Patrol 5009 intended for emergency response.
The contract was signed on October 10 in Bucharest. With this order, Romania intends to significantly modernise its fleet for emergency response. Order is the finalization of an extensive the tendering process which the Romanian Government conducts under the Vision 2020 project. This programme aims to improve Romania's disaster response capacity by purchasing new equipment and staff training, with a view to improving civil protection in crisis situations. This programme is also in line with the national strategy on climate change and economic growth in terms of emissions reduction.
Multi-tasking search and rescue vessels, ordered by the Romanian Government and constructed according to the Damen specifications, will be able to carry out missions up to three days in rough seas and under unfavourable conditions. The range shall be at least 2000 nautical miles at economic speed. One ship will be made in the standard multi-tasking SAR (Search and Rescue Multirole Ship) unit with emphasis on medical assistance, while the other will be a multi-tasking Multirole Ship, equipped with firefighting equipment on ships and platforms at sea.
The first may evacuate at least 50 people from emergency situations, while the fire-extinguishing ship will be able to take at least 30 people aboard. Both units have a helicopter touchdown space (‘touch and go’) and RHIB rescue boats. Both units have to have maximum speed 22 knots. They will be finished and equipped with Damen Shipyards Galatí. It is worth adding that this is another success for Damen in Romania because a contract was previously concluded with this country for the supply of two patrols based on the Damen type. Fast Crew Supplier 4008 Patrol for Romanian border police. Their delivery is scheduled at the end of 2022.
