The government wants to return Polish ships under the white and red flag

Members of the Parliament during the second reading in the plenary forum dealt with a draft income tax bill for seafarers, which assumes that tax exemptions will be possible for seafarers working not only on ships under the Polish flag.

Speaking of the submitted project, Grobaryczyk informed that the PIT tax bill for seafarers is another step in the way of returning ships to the Polish flag.

"The Government of Law and Justice has set itself the goal of having ships flying under foreign or cheap flags return under the white-red flag," said Gróbarczyk in the Sejm.

He added that there is still the last, perhaps most important, step in the preparation of a bill regulating social contributions for seafarers.

It is currently in preparation, and President Andrzej Duda reported his willingness to submit it as a presidential initiative.

"The President's request that he be the owner of this bill seems to give great chances of re-trial and effective implementation of this process. The most important thing is that, under EU law, this bill can enter Polish law" - said Grobharczyk.

"Our predecessors from the Civic Platform and the Polish People's Party have prepared a bill which concerned only the Polish flag. This has been questioned by the European Commission, hence discussions about its extension by all flags" - added the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Inland Shipping.

The Parliament, in connection with the second reading of the amendments to the Income Tax Act for seafarers, referred the draft to the Committee on Maritime Affairs and inland waterways again.
