Russian MFA spokesperson: Nord Stream 2 is a key project for Germany

Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline is a key project for Germany, so it is qualified by German analysts and representatives of the German authorities," said Russian MFA spokesperson Maria Zacharowa in an RT Deutsch television interview.
"This is a key project for Germany. I heard it from representatives of Germany and read analyses of German specialists. They qualify this energy project as a key one," the MFA spokesperson said. She called Nord Stream 2 a "business project" and not related to politics.
She ensured that Russia would meet its commitments as a partner of this project. The spokeswoman did not answer the question whether if construction was to be discontinued, Gazprom's company would demand funds lost from western countries. "We assume that partners in business projects should do their part," Zacharowa said.
A spokesman for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs criticized the German authorities for their position on the Russian oppositionist Alexey Navalny. She assessed that "no one can answer the question why Germany only follows the fate of one convicted person", who she felt was "elected" for this purpose. She argued that there are "many unresolved issues in German society", but that the authorities of this country "resistently do not see them" but "defence the interests of one citizen of another country". According to Zacharowa, Germany does not similarly support Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks.
"This is politicization. Alexey Navalny was given medical help... We should not invent what is not there," Zacharów said.
The relations of Russia and Germany, in the opinion of the MFA spokesperson, have suffered greatly because, as she put it, of the "history played in Germany in connection with an attempt to poison Navalny". "How can a country be held responsible without presenting any evidence?" Zacharów asked. She argued that Russia did not receive the results of Navalny's research and data "about what specifically... they tried to poison him".
A spokesman for Russian diplomacy also argued that in Navalny's case there is a "one and the same scenario" as in the case of Russian-sanctioned Ukrainian citizens: airmen Nadiji Sawchenko and director Oleh Sencov.
She also accused Western countries of "a large campaign against a Russian vaccine" on Covid-19. As a result, she assessed that "EU countries have lost their time" while other regions of the world have started buying a Russian preparation. At the same time, she assured that from the German Lands there was a "great interest" in the Russian vaccine and "specific offers to buy".
Zacharowa argued that during the coronavirus pandemic it turned out that Western leaders who, in her opinion, "called themselves leaders of the world" in fact "are not leaders". The EU, the US and the Western countries "did not deal with the task, either at economic or social level, or at the level of development and introduction of vaccines," said the spokeswoman, without explaining what criteria she meant.
Russia's representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the opinion that "there are no values that today would provide the West with its leadership" in the world and that "it is a myth that has already passed."
