Launching S-82 Narciso Monturiol in Cartagena – second ship of S-80 program on water

A conventional submarine S-82 was launched today at the Navantii shipyard in Cartagena. Narciso Monturiol. It is the second unit of the Spanish S-80 series, which, after entering service in Armada Española, is intended to strengthen the country's capacity to operate underwater in the Mediterranean.

Key stage in the program – launching S-80

The Spaniards finally had the moment they had been waiting for since 4 October – Narciso Monturiol went from waterfront to waterfront, closing the most demanding stage of construction. Launching, preceding the baptism of October 3, was accompanied by an hour-long and carefully conducted maneuver using a floating dock. Each stage of this operation required a series of precise technical checks, so that the unit safely left the floating dock. From now on, the ship enters the port testing phase to verify the operation of all ship installations. In the coming weeks, fuel refueling, first battery charging cycles and tests of the propulsion system at the waterfront will begin.

Before leaving for sea trials

Once the port tests have been completed, the Spanish ship will proceed to sea trials, during which crew and specialists from Navantia will verify hull behaviour at various depths, check the propulsion system, safety systems and complete integration of ship systems. Only the successful completion of these activities will open the way to hand over the Spanish Armada Española unit.

The importance of the programme for Armada Española and Polish Orka

The S-80 program includes the construction of four modern submarines, which will replace used Galerna-type units. Navantia responds for a comprehensive design and construction process, which strengthens the position of the Spanish shipbuilding industry and confirms its ambition in the new generation conventional submarine segment.

Hispanics show that the S-80 hull has grown from the childhood of development and implementation. This is a moment that strengthens the credibility of Navantii's offer to Poland.

The key thing for Warsaw is that Madrid emphasizes its readiness for broad industrial cooperation and real integration of Polish companies in the supply chain and the future service process. As a result, the S-80 remains among candidates fighting for the highest degree of podium in Orka's program.
