Seventh patrol frigate PPA "Domenico Millelire" launched

On 13 July at Fincantieri shipyard in Riva Trigoso (Genua) the ceremonial launch of the seventh multitasking patrol frigate took place PPA type (Pattugliatore Polivalente d’Altura) Domenico Millelire.
This is the second Thaon di Revel type unit in the Full configuration and the last of the original series referred to by the Italian Navy as Multipurpose Combat Ship (MCS), which had an international export success. This programme will be further developed to create even more advanced platforms.
The ceremony brought together key figures of the Italian Navy, including Vice Admiral Giuseppe Bergotto and Massimo Scialpi, deputy director of OCCAR, who were welcomed by Dario Deste, CEO of Fincantieri. The unit's godmother was Franca Millelire, a relative of the ship's patron.

Patrol frigate Domenico Millelire is part of an ambitious plan to modernise the Italian fleet under OCCAR. The ship is adapted to various combat system configurations, from a patrol version with the possibility of self-defense, to a combat version with full defense capabilities. Additionally, the unit can provide drinking water to land, which increases its versatility. The patrol frigate of the PPA type stands out with great flexibility, allowing to carry out missions from patrols and rescue operations to combat activities.
The construction of PPA patrol ships is carried out in the integrated shipyards Riva Trigoso and Muggiano, with scheduled deliveries by 2026. Launching Domenico Millelire is another step in strengthening the operational capacity of the Italian Navy and highlighting Fincantieri's dominant role in the global shipbuilding industry.
Unit Domenico Millelire forms part of a broader plan to modernise Marina Militare to provide state-of-the-art vessels capable of meeting the modern challenges of maritime safety. The plan, approved by the Italian government and parliament, includes the construction of modern PPA-type patrol frigates that combine advanced technology with high operational flexibility.
