Dearsan Shipyard launched a second sea-wide OPV

On April 19, Dearsan Shipyard launched a second OPV-type unit for the Nigeria Navy – a light sea-wide frigate, designed to operate in international waters. As part of a contract signed in 2021, the launch ceremony took place in Istanbul and attracted numerous officials and media from the arms industry.

The newly launched OPV 76 vessel is equipped with a modular design that allows for effective adaptation to different naval missions. This is particularly valuable in a time of peace, where it mainly performs patrol functions, with the possibility of rapid reorganization for war activities, thanks to the installation of additional sensors and weapons.

The introduction of OPV 76 ships significantly extends the operational capabilities of the Nigerian Navy, allowing for a wide range of missions, including combating piracy and crime in Gulf of Guinea waters. These activities are crucial to the safety of the oil industry, offshore operations and commercial shipping. With effective operations, Nigeria has strengthened its position as a regional maritime safety leader, as confirmed by the lowest number of armed attacks on ships in the region in more than two decades.

OPV 76 units are 78.6 m long and 11 m wide. Dive The ship is 2.9 metres, and the buoyancy is about 1,200 tons. The maximum speed is 28 knots and the range at an economic speed of 3000 nautical miles. The ship is operated by a 46-man crew. The weaponry of the units includes: Leonardo Marlin's artillery system with a kal cannon. 40 mm, remote-controlled sea cannon. 30 mm ASELSAN STAMP and 2 remote-controlled weapons modules with wkm Kal. 12.7 mm. Turkish company HAVELSAN will provide the ADVENT combat management system.

The ship's drive consists of four diesel engines MAN 18VP185 set in the CODAD configuration, three power generators and two propulsors.
