Gdańsk Shipyard interested in investments in Central Port

Representatives of the Maritime Board of the Port of Gdańsk and Gdańsk Shipyard signed the letter of intent. The shipyard is interested in investing in production sites in Central Port.
The Central Port will be one of the largest and most modern maritime investments in Europe. Deep water terminals, including container, general, passenger or LNG, will be built on over 400 landed hectares.
In May, ZMPG presented a ready-to-use concept for the development of new infrastructure. The central port space also includes areas for shipbuilding. This is what Gdańsk Shipyard wants to use.
– For months now, we have been having intense discussions with potential partners who would like to place their business in Central Port. We meet with the largest representatives of the marine and logistics industry worldwide. The letter of intent signed with Gdańsk Shipyard shows that our offer is also interested in serious entrepreneurs from Poland – explains Łukasz Greinke, President of ZMPG.
Port Gdańsk is currently the 4th largest port in the Baltic. The place in this ranking took place thanks to record transhipments – in 2018, over 49 million tons of goods through Gdańsk terminals and quays. The construction of the Central Port is to double the annual transhipments.
– The strategy of Gdańsk Shipyard, Baltic Operator and, assumes diversification of production, which protects us from short-term fluctuations in demand on the market. Given the involvement of the Shipyard Group in the implementation of the increasing number of contracts from the shipbuilding, offshore, wind energy or infrastructure sectors, and taking into account the planned investments, we predict that over the next decade the production sites in the Ostrów Island we have at our disposal may not be sufficient, and we have noted with interest the ZMPG's plans to include the space provided for shipbuilding in the project – stated Wojciech Peret, President of the Management Board of Gdańsk Shipyard, Baltic Operator and GSG Towers.
The Central Port will cover about 1400 ha of water and 410 ha of land-land. The project envisages the creation of 9 terminals. 4 rotors and three approaches will be built.
The construction of the Central Port in the shape of the concept is expected to cost approx. PLN 12 billion, taking into account the expenses on the side of the maritime administration for the construction of new breakwaters, rotors and approach tracks. The Port Board plans to implement the investment using the Public-Private Partnership formula. The first terminals can appear as early as 2029.
