Szczecińska Shipyard "Wulkan" with a contract for platforms for offshore wind farm

Szczecińska Shipyard "Wulkan" enters into the implementation of another project for the offshore wind energy sector. The Oder plant will perform structural elements intended for one of the largest offshore wind investments currently carried out in the North Sea.

The Chinese company Dajin Offshore – the largest private foundation manufacturer for offshore wind farms in the Middle State – has concluded an agreement with the State SSN "Wulkan" for the supply of at least 40 internal installation platforms for foundations. These structures will hit the Nordseecluster B project, which is formed in the German part of the North Sea.

The contract value is approximately EUR 11m. Production is due to start at the end of February 2026. Some 200 people will be involved in the task, both directly in the yard and among suppliers and subcontractors cooperating with the plant.

Offshore as a strategic direction for the development of Szczecin shipyard "Wulkan"

The signed agreement strengthens Dajin's relationship with the European offshore wind supply chain. For the Szczecin shipyard, it is another project confirming that the offshore wind energy segment ceases to be just a complement to its activities and becomes one of the pillars of development.

In two years we have turned the shipyard from a limited order portfolio into an entity capable of carrying out complex offshore projects on the international market. This contract is a tangible confirmation of the effectiveness of this transformation – emphasised President Kowalczyk.

Radosław Kowalczyk, President of SSN "Wulkan"

Szczecińska Shipyard "Wulkan", with an area of 45 hectares and infrastructure adapted to the production of large-scale steel structures, has been consistently building competence in the offshore area for several years. The plant declares its ambition to increase the share of the supply chain for projects carried out both abroad and in the future on the Polish Baltic.

We have built competence in the production of wind tower foundations, structures for marine transformer stations, elements for farm service units and logistics facilities. We increased the processing capacity and ordered the production processes. At the same time, we are developing a segment of the construction of specialized vessels. Offshore is not at the expense of ships – both areas complement each other and reinforce the potential of our shipyards – noted President Kowalczyk.

The representatives of Dajin emphasize that cooperation with the Szczecin plant is of a long-term nature. It includes not only performance of the contract, but also exchange of engineering experience and implementation of production standards applied to international projects. In practice, this means a transfer of know-how, which can strengthen local competences before launching further offshore investments in Poland.

Nordseecluster – one of the key projects in Europe

Nordseecluster is a joint venture between RWE (51%) and Norges Bank Investment Management (49%). RWE is responsible for the construction and operation of wind farms throughout their operation cycle.

The project is located approximately 50 kilometres north of Juist Island, in the German exclusive economic zone of the North Sea. The target capacity of the installation is to reach 1.6 GW, which will allow to generate energy corresponding to the demand of approximately 1.6 million households in Germany.

The implementation was divided into two stages. The launch of commercial exploitation of Nordseecluster B is planned to begin in 2029.

Thus, for the Szczecin shipyard "Volcano" participation in this project means entering the segment of the implementation of elements for one of the largest European offshore elevators. In the context of increasing competition in the offshore wind supply chain, it is a signal that Polish plants are able to compete effectively for contracts outside the domestic market – provided the pace of investment and a stable order book is maintained.
